Portland, OR - Alpha Broadcasting’s KUFO, KINK and KUPL have launched iPhone apps this week which allow listeners to tune into their favorite stations from the convenience of their cell phones. The apps, powered by AirKast, provide the freedom to not only listen live to the stations on the go, but also to view song lyrics, see artist and album information, read reviews, watch videos, listen to station podcasts, hear samples of recently played songs and even buy music through iTunes. There is no registration required and the app is free to download. Blackberry apps for the stations will be available shortly.
"We’ve moved into the next level of content delivery. As listeners become more mobile, our goal is to make it easier than ever before to connect, anywhere and anytime," commented Alpha Director of Music Programming, Scott Mahalick. "Eventually the only device people will need is a cell phone and this revolutionary new technology moves us ever closer in that direction, offering the convenience and portability that aren’t even possible with a laptop."
AirKast delivers branded applications that contain real-time digital media and online content to mobile and other connected consumer electronic (CE) devices. These hosted applications are powered by the AirKast platform that is reliable, scalable and secure. Using TuneKast, a solution designed for terrestrial and Internet-based radio stations, these applications are "dynamically brand-able" which means that stations can change sponsor information in real-time without performing application updates. In addition, all campaigns can be monitored and measured through Ando Media’s market-leading ad trafficking and metrics measurement system. AirKast allows stations to focus on their competitive advantages rather than the technical issues of mobile delivery.
"We are so pleased that Alpha Broadcasting has chosen AirKast to deliver its mobile applications and un-tether its audience from listening via desktop computers," said Simon Moy, president of AirKast, Inc. "In addition to distributing its own content, Alpha can now offer advertisers and sponsors a graphically-rich and feature-robust way to reach its mobile listening audience."
Alpha Broadcasting owns and operates KUFO, KINK, KUPL, KXTG, KXL-AM and KCMD-AM. Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, Alpha was formed by Larry Wilson, Bob Proffitt and Endeavour Capital, also in Portland. Wilson founded Citadel Communications Corporation, before it was sold to Forstmann Little & Company in 2001 for $2 billion.
