Portland, OR - Alpha Broadcasting’s six station Portland cluster will all participate in a one day Radio-thon for Haiti on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, raising funds for Mercy Corp.

The benefit will air 6am-7pm on KINK-FM, KUPL-FM, KUFO-FM, KXTG-FM/95.5 The Game, KXL-AM and KCMD-AM, directing listeners to either a special phone line at 1-800-245-9600 or to the station websites for an easy donation link.  Money raised will assist Mercy Corps in their mission to provide aid to the earthquake ravaged nation of Haiti.  Website donations can be accessed at:  www.kink.fm; www.kupl.com; www.kufo.com; www.955thegame.com; www.kxl.com and www.freedom970.com

Mercy Corps has teams on the ground in Haiti, working to assist the injured and homeless with immediate humanitarian needs such as food, clean drinking water, clothing and shelter.  Throughout the day all six stations will be airing updates and actualities from the Mercy Corps teams on the ground in Haiti as well as those who have managed to get to safety, either in the Dominican Republic or back to the United States.

"We were so moved by the footage we’ve seen and stories being reported by caregivers and survivors, that we just felt we had to find a way to help," commented Scott Mahalick, Alpha Broadcasting Director of Music Programming.  "Our listeners have always shown incredible generosity when it comes to helping people in need and we’re confident that this effort will provide badly needed resources to Mercy Corps."

"The situation in Haiti is heart-wrenching and getting the help down there quickly is of utmost urgency," added Brian Jennings, Alpha Broadcasting Director of Talk Programming.  "We’ve been reporting on this story from every angle since it broke, and it’s going to take an extraordinary amount of resources to do what’s necessary, just in terms of medical supplies, food, water, shelter.  I don’t think we can even fathom the devastation, but we can help using the power of our collective airwaves."

Alpha Broadcasting is a new entity that owns and operates KXTG-FM, KUPL-FM, KINK-FM, KUFO-FM, KXL-AM and KCMD-AM.  Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, Alpha was formed by Larry Wilson, Bob Proffitt and Endeavour Capital, also in Portland.  Wilson founded Citadel Communications Corporation, before it was sold to Forstmann Little & Company in 2001 for $2 billion.
